Mpumalanga Department of Health releases latest vaccine stats

The department stated that this showed that the majority of active cases come from the economically active working category.

As of August 10, 461 843 people had received the Covid-19 vaccine in Mpumalanga. A total of 408 new Covid-19 cases and 1 751 cases of death were recorded.

According to a report by the provincial Department of Health, dated August 2, the majority of cases were recorded in the 30-39 age group. This was followed by the 40-49 age group. The department stated that this showed that the majority of active cases come from the economically active working category.

The roll-out in the province of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine was launched in February, and the Pfizer vaccine on May 17.

Pfizer is administered in two doses. On Tuesday, about 336 607 people had received their first Pfizer dose, and 88 126 have already received their second. About 125 236 people received the J&J vaccine, administered in a single dose.

In Ehlanzeni District, the vaccination sites administering the Pfizer vaccine are Barberton Hospital, Mapulaneng Hospital, Rob Ferreira Hospital, Sabie Hospital and Shongwe Hospital.

Those administering the J&J vaccine are Matikwana Hospital, Sabie Hospital, South African Military Health Services (Nelspruit Support Base), Themba Hospital and Tintswalo Hospital. Since the roll-out of the vaccination programme, the following age bands were legible for vaccination: 60 years and above, 50-59 years and 35-49 years.

On Wednesday, the MEC for health, Sasekane Manzini, visited Barberton, where she said she remained committed in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

During her visit, Manzini monitored the roll-out programme and encouraged the public to be vaccinated to save lives.
