We Care 4 Nelspruit resumes tackling parks
We Care 4 Nelspruit is back on streets and cleaning up the city's parks.

Last Wednesday, it started its clean-up project at Village Park. The organisation was started in 2019 after Nelspruit City Improvement District (CID), the Nelspruit Community Forum and Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism decided they wanted to make a difference in the city.

The organisition had to halt operations due to Covid-19 regulations, but are now back to tackle issues regarding the park.
The team of people working in the parks includes homeless people and some of the residents of Damascus Farm. This initiative provides them with job opportunities and a warm meal.
Pr TJ Maré of the organisation said they had plans for all the parks around Mbombela. “We started this initiative in partnership with SPAR Lowveld, Be Liv It Consulting, the Nelspruit CID and Mpumalanga Leadership Foundation.
“Village is one of the most prominent parks in our area. It is currently infested by overgrowth and alien plants. We want to clean and maintain it. We started by cutting the overgrowth down and are planning to do some deep cleaning,” he said.
Maré said they have installed cameras as a way to monitor the park. “We installed CCTV cameras on Wednesday to make sure that the park becomes a safer place.”
This is part of the organisation’s project to have all parks clean and ready for September 24. “We want the public to be able to celebrate Heritage Day/Braai Day by visiting the parks and enjoying a braai.”

He added that the project would not be possible without the support they receive from their partners. “We appreciate all the assistance we get from SPAR. They sponsored the food and stipend rewards for the workers. Be Liv It Consulting donated the CCTV cameras and will provide the monitoring services.
“The City of Mbombela offered to collect the waste when we are done cleaning,”
he said.
Bella Mogane of SPAR Lowveld said, “SPAR aims to inspire others to do and be more, and through such community-centred projects, it speaks to the values we uphold by also assisting to keep our communities safe and clean. We hope to see other members of the community support such projects and create a culture of cleanliness and safety.”
