Afri Orchids Spring Open Days has much to offer
The event will be held on Saturday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Sunday from 09:00 to 15:00 this weekend.
Afri Orchids, boasting 13 greenhouses, will be hosting their annual Spring Open Days this weekend.
Anthophiles will be treated to a wide range of orchids, which include tillandsias and platyceriums, to mention a few.
Lourens Grobler, a South African Orchid Council judge and an expert on species and growing, will be the speaker at the event. He will give a repotting demonstration with lots of tips on Saturday, and a guided tour on Sunday.
Jolisa Grobler of Afri Orchids said due to the space at their disposal, guests can safely keep their social distance from other orchid lovers. “We will limit the number of people in the same areas at any given time, and we will make sure they are able to sanitise their hands frequently. Remember that level 3 requires you to wear a mask in public, so do not leave home without it.”

According to her, the guests may stroll through the greenhouses and take photographs at their leisure. “If you need a bit of inspiration, you can spend some time walking through our garden. The tea garden will have food, sweet treats and drinks for sale. The garden is big enough and you can certainly find a spot somewhere to enjoy your food. Kids are welcome, provided they wear a mask and keep a safe distance from other patrons,” she explained.
“We will be there to answer all your questions. If you need to stock up on supplies for repotting, we will have it in stock. We will have more indigenous and African species available for sale than ever before,” she said.
They previously hosted an event in February. Jolisa said there are no bookings required for this event, although, again, masks are required.
