Barberton High’s teacher awarded for excellence

She received the National Education Prize for excellence in secondary teaching in the district.

Barberton High School’s Monique Moolman’s achievement has made the school burst with pride.

The awards ceremony was held at John Mdluli Primary School on Thursday.  She received the National Education Prize for excellence in secondary teaching in the district.

She took first place in this category and will be competing for the provincial awards. She is a teacher of Afrikaans first additional language in grades eight and nine. She joined Barberton High School in 2017.

Moolman told Lowvelder that she was shocked and did not expect to receive an award. “As surprised as I am to receive this prize, I am honoured to be part of this.”

She said she has a strategy to prepare for lessons in class. “I walk the extra mile for the learners in my class. I make sure that I am always prepared for the lessons of the day. I also make sure that learners know exactly what to do, and I make myself available to them.”

The school’s principal, Pieter Ferreira, congratulated her on receiving this prize, and making this milestone. “Well done, the school is proud of you.”
