House in Barberton burns down

This was the result of one of several fires that occurred in the region on Wednesday.

The Barberton Fire Department has confirmed that a runaway veld fire occurred in the area that day.

According to the manager of the Lowveld and Escarpment Fire Protection Association, André Scheepers, the house that was razed by flames on Wednesday afternoon was due to one of several fires that had occurred in the region on Wednesday.

“Hot and windy conditions were favourable to fires yesterday, but today’s weather conditions brought much relief and all fires have been contained,” Scheepers said.

The DA councillor, Philip Minnaar, said a special word of thanks to the substantial number of Umjindi residents who assisted to stop the fire from spreading and causing more severe damage. The fire department from Mbombela was also dispatched, as there are apparently no fire trucks in Barberton.
