Beloved local hotel manager loses battle to cancer

"He has called his final round and is finally at peace."

Simon Sutherland, the general manager of Premier Hotel The Winkler outside White River, passed away on September 17.

He had had colon cancer. Condolences are pouring in from far and wide.

Sutherland’s partner, Edwidge Bwalya, said she was at a loss for words. “I would like to thank everyone for your kind words, prayers and thoughts you are sending.

“Simon indeed was a man with a big heart!”

She said he had not only made friends and colleagues, or trained people; these people became part of their family.

Sutherland’s sister, Jane Booyse, also shared the news of her brother’s passing.

“There is no easy way but to announce that our Simon, a dear and beloved son to Margery, partner to Edwidge, my precious brother and uncle to Gareth and Emma, not forgetting father to Kolwe and Chamzoo (his canine boys) has passed away peacefully in the early hours of yesterday.

“He has called his final round and is finally at peace.

“The family extends thanks and gratitude to Richard Bray and team at Premier Hotels and all his colleagues at Premier Hotel The Winkler for their support to Edwidge during this difficult time.”
