Guard injured and suspect shot dead in attempted CIT heist in Sabie

The shootout occurred early this morning (September 21) in Sabie.

A shootout near a popular Sabie store this morning has left a robbery suspect dead and a Fidelity Cash in Transit Guard wounded.

It is alleged that at 07:00 this morning (September 21), a Fidelity guard was busy removing money from a Sabie store when he was approached by two armed men.

Provincial police spokesperson, Col Donald Mdhluli, said a shootout ensued and the guard was shot in the shoulder. During the shootout, one of the suspects was shot and killed.

“The injured guard was taken to hospital for treatment. The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated and a charge of attempted murder is being investigated with regard to the injured security official,” said Mdhluli.

He added that an Audi A6, which was reportedly used by the suspects, was also recovered and was reported hijacked in the Calcutta area recently.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects and urge members of the public to assist with information on their whereabouts by calling Det Sgt Given Mahlako on 0828440229 or the Crime Stop number on 0860010111. Alternatively information can be sent via MySAPS App.
