Kids offer up pocket money to SPCA’s voiceless needy

What more heart-warming donation is there than children gifting their pocket money to animals in need?

Flamboyant School, a remedial school for children with learning disabilities, recently did an outreach to White River SPCA to give its animals some much-needed food and money.

The school’s headmistress, Gail van der Riet, said, “We believe in supporting the underprivileged and those in need. We were made aware that White River SPCA was in desperate need of not only funds, but food and other items for all the animals in its care.

“Our Spring Day Festival was celebrated on September 3 and our pupils were all encouraged to make monetary and/or food donations.”

She said the learners rose to the occasion and they were able to donate both money and numerous other items.

One of the grade seven learners, Kara Skinner, said she sees the SPCA as one of the animal societies that will do anything in its power to try and prevent cruelty to animals.

She said they took special care to only buy food that expires next year.

“We bought blankets, and toys were also donated. We also donated our pocket money, which can be used for anything specific they need.

“Animals have no voice and it us up to us to speak up for them. It is the responsibility of all of us to protect the voiceless.”
