Town cleaner thanks to community effort

The townspeople recently rolled up their sleeves and decided to continued with their cleaning campaign.

“The current condition in Lydenburg calls for action to be taken by the residents. We all need to roll up our sleeves, join hands and take care of the area,” said Nicolene Pienaar, one of the campaign’s organisers.

Their project started in April with the Lydenburg/Mashishing Chamber of Commerce’s PRIDE Day. Several businesses jumped in.

Some residents also commented positively on Facebook about the group clearing the subway in Voortrekker Street. “We do it as we get time and have volunteers available,” said Pienaar.

Businesses like Bebels Coffee Express also regularly pick up trash and clean the corner of Church and De Beer and Church and Viljoen streets out of their own volition.
