Mpumalanga Hawks arrest former rural development and land reform project manager and one other for fraud
Two suspects were arrested on December 8 for alleged fraud, theft and corruption that reportedly occurred in September 2018.
Mpumalanga Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team arrested two people for fraud, theft and corruption on Wednesday December 8.

Godfrey Mthokozi Mchunu (50) and Hlaleleni Dinah Shabangu (45) appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday following their arrest, and were granted R5 000 bail each.

The Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson, Capt Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, said that in September 2018, when Mchunu had been employed as a project manager for the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, he allegedly colluded with a service provider, Shabangu, the director of Frugasec cc.
“Payments were made by the department to the company for services that were not rendered, causing an actual loss of about R1 265 400 to the department,” Sekgotodi said.
She said the two were charged, as well as the company, Frugasec cc.
The matter was postponed to February 4, 2022, and they are expected to appear in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
