City of Mbombela announces urgent upgrades to Figtree Street already in progress
The upgrades started earlier this week on February 7 and will continue into March.
The City of Mbombela has announced that it has approved an urgent and necessary upgrading of Figtree Street in the interest of improving public safety.
In a statement, the municipality said the works include the installation of traffic-calming measures, as well as the upgrading of key intersections to traffic circles.
“Construction work commenced on Monday February 7 and will continue on into March. Affected intersections include Koraalboom Avenue and Kremetart Street intersections with Figtree Street, while the traffic-calming measures are installed along the section of Figtree Street between Dr Enos Mabuza Drive and Tambotie Street,” said the statement.

Furthermore, roadworks will be stopped temporarily where possible during peak periods so as not to negatively impact Figtree Street commuter traffic. The statement said the works will also continue over weekends when schools are closed to further minimise impact on school traffic.
“Motorists are hereby warned of possible delays and alternative routes should preferably be used. Please exercise patience and drive safely while these urgent upgrades are being done,” said the municipality.
“Your cooperation will be appreciated. Please be assured that the works are to be done as speedily as possible to minimise any inconvenience to affected motorists.”
