Lions Club and Greek Kouzina donates to local safe haven
The fundraiser was hosted at The Greek Kouzina on May 26.
Huis Betlehem, the safe haven, received a generous donation on Friday June 3 following a recent fundraiser at the Greek Kouzina.
The fundraiser was organised by Greek Kouzina’s manager Chris Liebenberg and Nelspruit Lions Club’s Koos Schoonraad at the restaurant on Thursday May 26.
The evening included a three-course meal and a stellar performance by local singer Anne-Mari. The night concluded with the Zorba, a Greek dance, and the traditional plate-breaking.
Liebenberg said the event was well attended and thanked their various sponsors for the evening, including Doug’s Hiring and Old Pack House Gin for the gin tasting at the fundraiser.

“We want to thank everyone who donated to this very important cause,” said Dennis.
A total of R5 940 was raised for the safe haven.
Huis Betlehem houses seven children in Mbombela in a house run by a housemother, while White River’s house is run by a husband and wife who look after five children.
The Greek Kouzina has also committed to provide the houses with home-cooked meals once a week, and are challenging other businesses, community organisations and individuals to come on board.

He said Roman’s Pizza recently delivered pizzas to the house in answer to Greek Kouzina’s challenge, and he hopes more people will open their hearts to assist where they can.
Meanwhile, Schoonraad is making plans to take the children on various outings, including a trip to the movies, the ice rink and rugby games. He will also be hosting a braai for the children.
