Let’s empower. This was the theme of the Youth Workshop held on Tuesday June 14 at the Emnotweni Arena. This event was hosted by the South African Council for Businesswomen (SACBW) Nelspruit and other business partners.

The aim is to let tomorrow’s leaders be more productive in Mpumalanga’s business environment. There were various speakers from SACBW Nelspruit and other sectors.

They discussed various topics meant to empower and enable young people to prepare for the future.

The topics included: cover your assets, financial savvy, interview attitude, attitude in the workplace, personal branding, you are what you eat, social media laws, attitude in the workplace, keeping it clean, looking after our Kruger, home is where the heart is, getting from A to B, 10 safety tips and secure your future.

During the event, one of the speakers, Dolly Mbuyane, did a presentation on bright minds and emotional intelligence (EQ).

According to her, EQ is the ability to identify, understand and control one’s thoughts and feelings, communicating them clearly to others and interacting with empathy towards others’ emotions.

“As the youth it is important to know who you are, understand your environment and understand how to interact with others around you. When you are emotionally intelligent, it helps you as a person to increase your leadership ability. It decreases occupational stress; a lot of people are stressed in their jobs and businesses.”
Mbuyane said as an individual, one needs to have a personal vision, mission and values.
