Cars were pelted with stones in Lydenburg

Two families narrowly escaped a serious car accident when their vehicles were pelted with stones from the Voortrekker Street bridge.

A passer-by alerted officials on Saturday June 25 that two men were throwing stones onto unsuspected motorists from the bridge. The stones broke the front window of the family’s vehicle and the other vehicle was already gone from the scene when officials arrived.

The Thaba Chweu Local Municipality Traffic Department, Lydenburg SAPS and security companies were on the scene within minutes. Upon arrival, the two suspects reportedly tried to flee. The suspects were apprehended and appeared in the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday June 27.
