Mbombela potjiekos teams have a cooking good time raising SPCA funds
The event saw the winners of the potjiekos competition held at Bush Baby Pub & Grill donate their winnings to the Nelspruit SPCA.
The Bush Baby Pub & Grill managed to raise just over R2 000 for the Nelspruit SPCA during a potjiekos competition it hosted on Sunday afternoon, July 3.
Locals gathered at the pub with their potjies and various meats and vegetables at 13:00 on Sunday, forming five teams to take part. The event even had some stallholders selling candyfloss, sweets and home-made jams and marmalades.

While the teams worked on making their best potjiekos yet, local singer Jax performed for the audience, receiving a massive round of applause for her rendition of “Bette Davis Eyes” by Kim Carnes.

The event organiser and pub owner, Amber-Leigh Hayes, said the day was a success and that a total amount of R2 300 was raised for the Nelspruit SPCA. She handed the money over to the organisation on Monday morning, July 4.

The winning potjiekos was made by 2 Chillies in a Pot. Team members Andrea Wiggill and Ashleigh Pauls made a vegetarian Mexican dish and won R500 and a bottle of brandy.
“The team decided to donate their winnings to the SPCA,” said Hayes.

“Everyone who partook in the potjie competition gave food to the public. Some of the teams also sold a few plates of food and donated the proceeds to the SPCA,” she said.
