MLM's ward committees for the term 2021-26, participated in a two-day intensive induction programme recently.
JANE FURSE – The Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality’s (MLM) ward committees for the term 2021-26,
participated in a two-day intensive induction programme.
Over 300 ward committees will now fully comprehend their role and responsibilities that they should carry in communities towards the attainment of services and the enhancement of participatory democracy.
The team has been taken through all applicable legislations governing the ward committees’ environment. Once again, the mayor, Cllr Minah Bahula, urged them to abide by their code of conduct and protocol
legislations in carrying out their functions in communities.

“You are here at the behest of the people of Makhuduthamaga who elected you. There is no room for disappointing our people. The code of conduct must remain your bible that should carry you.
“We hope you remind yourselves at all times of your constitutional mandate. As foot soldiers we expect a seamless link between yourselves and the ward councillor to advise communities on matters of local government such as the deeper understanding of the integrated developmental plan as a blueprint for
sustainable services and many other processes that the municipality embarks upon to improve the quality of life for our residents.”
In the end the team rigorously engaged in various commissions dealing with different topics such as the social welfare and development, public participation, issues on electricity, water and sanitation, ward committees’ tools of trade and capacity building, among others.
