Burgersfort DJ wins big at Samas
Among the big winners was one of ours, Chymamusique. Born Collen Ntala Mmotla, Chymamusique took home his first Sama awards when he emerged tops in the best dance album category.
BURGERSFORT – Chymamusique has once again put Tubatse on the map, when the Recording Industry of South Africa announced this year’s South African Music Awards’ (Samas) winners at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg on August 27.
Among the big winners was one of ours, Chymamusique. Born Collen Ntala Mmotla, Chymamusique took home his first Sama awards when he emerged tops in the best dance album category.
He also won the top prizes for his album Musique, including the male artist of the year and album of the year. The album was released in November 2021. Musique is adored by deep house and soulful house music lovers all over
the country.
“All I can say is thank you to God and to all the people who listen to my music and supports me,” said Chymamusique.
The recent awards are not his first ones. In February 2015, he scooped the best new artist award at the Metro FM Music Awards.
Also among his accolades, he won three remix competitions conducted by Soulcandi, Blackwhole, ENT and Castle Lite in 2011. Well-known DJs started using his material on their compilations after his achievements.
Chymamusique was born in Diphale Village outside Burgersfort in June 1990.
He started his music career as a jazz pianist in 2000, when he developed a love for house music and started learning production on his own.
He completed his matric in 2007 and went to study analytic chemistry at Tshwane University of Technology. Realising he had a passion for entertainment and not science, he enrolled at Boston City Campus and studied media, where he would write and produce songs in his spare time.
In 2014, Chymamusique finally completed his first independent album after years of releasing singles. The album was titled The Gift of Sound and was produced at his own record-label company, Chymamusiq Records.
He describes his sound as soulful house. He has also previously released House Afrika, House Dimensions and After the Storm.
Apart from running his own record company, he still produces songs. Chymamusique worked with popular producers and DJs Rocco, Fresh, Mi Casa, Lulo Café, Fistaz Mixwell, Kaylow and many more.
