A mother and son escaped death when the car she was driving, a Toyota Fortuner, collided head-on with a truck on the R536 near Hazyview.
The minor sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the nearest hospital. His mother was transported by ambulance to the hospital for medical attention. The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene.

It is unclear what caused the accident. Emergency personnel and the police are currently on the scene to monitor the situation and traffic. Only one lane is open for traffic on a stop-and-go basis.
It is also unclear when the road will be cleared. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
