Ziplining down the Waterval Onder hills

The Mountain Strings zipline is the perfect outing for family and friends, and offers a panoramic view of Waterval Onder and the surrounding areas.

The towering mountains and rolling hills here have more to offer than just the spectacular views, now that the Mountain Strings zipline is in full operation.

With over two years of hard work setting up the various platforms and lines across rocky outcrops, the zipline offers absolutely incredible views with a side of adrenaline as one races through the air.

Owned and run by Christie Marais, adventurers are greeted at the Mountain Strings reception by the knowledgeable and friendly guides who go over all the safety regulations and how the zipline works with the visitors.

After the guests are suited up in their harnesses, the guides give a short induction by having them race down a short zipline across a dam in order to make them feel more comfortable on the longer and bigger lines along the course on the hillsides above.

The induction is followed by an exciting 4×4 ride up rocky hills, overlooking Waterval Onder and Emgwenya (formerly Waterval Boven) to the first line, 212m above the valley floor.

There are six lines for people to enjoy, with shorts walks in between each offering panoramic views. The entire course is just over 3km and takes between two to three hours to complete.

Halfway through the course, guests can expect an ice-cold bottle of water from the Waterval Onder valley and a sugary treat to keep the energy levels up. And at the end of the adventure, visitors are treated to a mouthwatering stuffed pancake (there are seven fillings from which to choose, including chicken mayo or ice cream and caramel sauce) on the stoep of a farmhouse overlooking the training dam.
