Bahati Centre braais for Nelspruit Hospice
A braai competition was held at the centre and had six teams competing for the title of braai master of the Heritage Day celebrations on September 24.
The Bahati Centre celebrated Heritage Day on Saturday with a massive fundraiser that saw Nelspruit Hospice receive just over R20 000 in donations.

The celebration’s main event was the braai competition, which pitted local companies and organisations against one another, all for the big win.

Organised by Lewies Dippenaar of Die Windpomp, the centre managed to round up a variety of sponsors for fantastic prizes for the competitors, such as vouchers and hampers filled with goodies.

With some lively entertainment from local singers Bianca Swift and Gerrie Pretorius all the way from Parys, the contestants readied their braai stations, while a few market stalls were set up at the entrance of the centre parking lot.

Competing for the title of braai masters were the Braai Bokkies, Ambassador Foods, Swift Group, Swift Group Two, Harley Owners Group and Salonique.

The judges were Michelle Higgo of Southern Sun, Pierre de Villiers, Buks and Roché Esterhuizen of Lowvelder, Mrs Mpumalanga 2022 winner Juanry Crous, and Dippenaar.

In first place overall for the best theme, best food preparation and best team spirit, was the Harley Owners Group. Ambassador Foods came second, although they did win the best plate of food for the day.

After the braai competition, Die Windpomp set up a big screen so patrons could watch the rugby, and this was followed by a performance by the band Ouderdoos.

Dippenaar said it was a great day and fun evening. He said that they would be making the fundraiser an annual event in collaboration with Nelspruit Hospice.
“We want to thank the members of the community who came out to support this great cause,” he said.
