Education assistance programme going strong
Basic education sector to benefit greater Lydenburg area.

The Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) is going from strength to strength and is in phase four of the programme.
“It began at the plight of the Covid-19 pandemic whereby teachers and learners were expected to comply with strict regulations around teaching and learning to ensure safety remained a priority. Mashishing Secondary School is one of the schools that applauds the programme. We believe this is a viable project that allows teachers to remain focused on their respective departments and subjects. We find the programme highly effective. Teachers can now focus on their craft and the educator’s assistants (EA) are there to help them,” said the principal, Nomajuba Maseko.

The programme is treated as a normal employment convention whereby the employee is expected to undergo preparatory training to ensure they execute tasks effectively.
“We give the assistants training and take them through an orientation around the school so that they know what is expected of them,” Maseko said.
She emphasised that potential EAs in the programme ought to have a willingness to learn so that at the end of their tenure they walk away with a tangible skill that they can apply in any future work endeavours.
One of the key objectives of the PYEI in the basic education sector is to provide the beneficiaries with skills and competencies that will enhance their prospects for future employment.
Should additional information on how to access the training be required, an email enquiry should be sent to beei@dbe.gov.za.
