1 087 suspects arrested in greater Burgersfort area over Easter

Some of the suspects caught at roadblocks throughout the Limpopo province were already on the police radar for other crimes.

Operation Paseka, a joint operation in Burgersfort, Steelpoort and the rest of Limpopo, led to the arrest of 1 087 suspects. During these arrests at roadblocks throughout the province from April 7 to 10, the police confiscated firearms with ammunition, vehicles, knives and illegal substances.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial police commissioner, said that most of the suspects were already on the police radar for murder, attempted murder, robberies, rape, sexual assault, gender-based violence, burglaries, malicious damage to property, theft, drug-related crimes, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, illegal immigration, public drinking, contravention of the Liquor Act, protection order violations and Road Traffic Act violations.
