Campaign targets overloaded trucks near Ngodwana
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison held an awareness campaign at Ngodwana to prevent truckers from overloading their vehicles.
An awareness campaign targeting overloaded trucks travelling on the N4 was held at Ngodwana on Saturday April 28.
Conducted by the Road Safety Education Unit of the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the campaign aimed to help educate freight drivers in properly loading their vehicles and the importance of doing so.
The department’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said overloading is a road safety risk as the stability of the vehicle becomes compromised.

“This is dangerous for other road users,” he said.
“Loading trucks excessively affects the roadworthiness of the vehicle and compromises the driver’s ability to control the truck in cases of emergency.”
Mmusi added that the government spends millions of rands to repair damage caused by overloaded heavy motor vehicles on a continuous basis.
Truck drivers are therefore urged to not overload their vehicles.
