A house was allegedly set on fire by the owner's brother. The suspect was arrested, appeared in court, and has been remanded in custody for a formal bail application.

A 36-year-old woman, Thandeka Tibane, was left destitute after her family home in Tekwane South was allegedly set alight by her younger brother on May 3 at about 23:00.

“A few minutes later she could smell smoke. Upon inspection, she discovered that one of the rooms was ablaze. The fire became uncontrollable and spread to the entire house.

“She called the police while watching the blaze consume her home and its contents. On arrival, the SAPS found both siblings still at the house,” he said.
