Pupils enjoy exciting day of spelling at Pro Gratia

Pro Gratia Learning Centre recently hosted a Spelling Olympiad for its learners.

Every year, Pro Gratia celebrates various Olympiads like spelling, art and math, in which all learners can participate.

Spelling Olympiads are educational activities that encourage children to develop their spelling skills, said the school.

Pro Gratia provides a fun context in which kids are motivated to practise spelling. In the competition, contestants are asked to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a varying degree of difficulty. There are three categories: DCAPS, juniors and seniors.

Each category had only one winner, who gets to keep the honour of Spelling King/Queen for one year.

Leigh-Ann Mpete, Charnee Nel, Hlelo Moripe, the winner of the junior category, and Ansie Viljoen.

This year caused loads of excitement under the 52 participants. During the competition, each participant received a lollipop to keep their brains awake.

At the end of the day, everyone was considered a winner, but only three could wear the crowns of Spelling King and Queen.

The head boy opened the day by lighting a candle. The winner from the senior group blew it out at the end of the competition.
