Lush greens and light-up golf balls at Sabie business chamber’s golf day

The Sabie Country Club saw a jovial bunch of golfers put forth their best swings and putts during the day portion of the annual day/night golf fundraiser, but as soon as it got dark, the golfers in pajamas took centre stage.

The Sabie Chamber of Commerce and Tourism hosted its annual day-and-night golf fundraising event at the Sabie Country Club on Saturday June 3.

The jovial event drew a crowd of golf enthusiasts, both experienced players and newcomers, to support the chamber’s projects aimed at enhancing Sabie’s infrastructure, community beautification and development.

This golf fundraiser has been a cherished tradition for over a decade, and this year’s event upheld its reputation as a truly memorable experience. With 48 players participating in the day field and 36 players in the night field, it demonstrated the town’s passion for both golf and community engagement.

The day field provided an excellent opportunity for golf enthusiasts to showcase their talent and engage in friendly competition while benefiting a good cause. Local businesses were invited to sponsor the holes, and more than 60 enthusiastic sponsors graciously contributed to the event’s success.

As the day drew to a close, the night field took centre stage, illuminating the course with light-up golf balls and candles to guide the way.

One of the notable aspects of the fundraiser is its inclusivity. Non-golfers are invited to join in the fun, allowing everyone to partake in the excitement of playing golf under the stars. Players were also encouraged to dress up for the night field, with a prize for the best dressed, which added an extra layer of fun to the evening.

Players and supporters were treated to an auction, with items ranging from accommodation at Mount Sheba, African Rest Lodge and Lugar Do Mar in Mozambique to an electric lawnmower and a safari in the Kruger National Park.

Every putt and swing contributed to a great cause, as all funds raised from the event will go towards the chamber’s projects to improve the town. The event highlighted the community’s dedication to making Sabie an even better place to live and visit.

The Sabie community, with its loyal support and participation, demonstrated once again the remarkable spirit that makes this town so special. Nicole Brümmer, one of the organisers, echoed that sentiment.

“Sabie has no shortage of willing participants when it comes to events that improve the community. Everyone had a great time, and the sponsors really went all out to spoil the players.”

The chamber expresses its deepest gratitude to the Sabie Country Club, sponsors, volunteers, supporters and all those who contributed to the event.
