Case of shooting on White River minor postponed

The White River Magistrate's Court recently postponed the case of two men who were allegedly involved in the shooting of an 11-year-old girl.

The matter against two men accused of being involved in the April shooting of a 11-year-old girl has been postponed to July 26 for further investigation.

The Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said the accused, Lourens de Bruyn (39) and Pieter Kruger (62), had appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court on Friday. The pair are facing charges of attempted murder and the discharging of a firearm in a built-up area or public place.

They are accused of being involved in a shooting incident on April 10, when the young girl was shot in the back while travelling with her family in a minivan on the R537.

During their last court appearance on April 24, Kruger was granted R10 000 bail, however, De Bruyn was denied it.

Lowvelder previously reported that, according to the victim’s father, who wished to remain anonymous, his daughter had been travelling to Mbombela in the back of a Mercedes-Benz Viano along with her four siblings when the incident occurred.

The father has since declined to comment further.

The cause of the shooting and how it unfolded will be subject to court proceedings.
