PCA does charity ride on tractor, cycle and bike

Pediatric Care Africa’s Dr André Hattingh drove through five provinces on a tractor to raise funds for children who require medical treatment.

The founder of Pediatric Care Africa (PCA), Dr André Hattingh’s charity drive of 2 500km throughout five provinces has already notched up more than 1 750km.

Surika van der Merwe of PCA said Hattingh, and Pr TJ Maré on bicycle and motorbike, saw their first weeks in various saddles receiving wonderfully positive response.

The charity ride’s main aim is raising funds for children to undergo much-needed medical treatment, while drawing attention to the large number of children killed in the country every year.
They hope to raise at least R250 000 to provide urgent medical care and surgical treatment to the children who desperately need it. At the same time, these two men are ensuring farm murders in SA receive international attention.

“We did raise some funds, but not yet what we hoped for as we are still travelling. We are hoping that more donors will come on board. Some donations are still outstanding, and we believe we will receive them before the end of the journey,” Van der Merwe said.

According to her, the response has been awesome. Many people met them along the road or stopped for a coffee and a chat.
Maré said he hoped his message about farm murders was highlighted and would, going forward, receive special attention from authorities.

“We hope the public will stand together to fight against killing farmers. We need them for food and jobs. Killing farmers always has a negative impact on the economy and food sustainability. We therefore need to stand together and fight this,” he said.
Donors and those who want to get involved in any way, can visit www.pediatriccareafrica.org or call 076 229 5663.
The trip will end in White River again on Saturday.
