Man arrested at Lebombo Border Post after 50kg of suspected heroin discovered

50kg of suspected heroin was found in the trailer of a taxi at the Lebombo Border Post.

A Mozambican taxi driver (37) was arrested after he was found in possession of 50kg of suspected heroin concealed inside the minibus taxis trailer at the Lebombo Border Post on Monday September 4.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the police working at the border stopped a Toyota Quantum minibus with North West registration plates on Monday afternoon. He said the vehicle, which was ferrying some passengers, was searched, as was its trailer.

Suspected drugs in powder form, concealed inside plastic containers, were found in the trailer. Mdhluli said the driver was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.

He was expected to appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday September 5. The outcome of the appearance was not known at the time of publishing.
