Two dead and two injured in Nhlalakahle Village shooting

Two armed men stormed a premises and opened fire at random. Four people were shot.

The Calcutta police are investigating another shooting incident which left two people, between the ages of 24 and 38, dead. Two other victims, aged 11 and 46, are fighting for their lives in hospital.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the incident occurred in the Nhlalakahle Trust near Calcutta on Tuesday evening, September 26, at about 19:30.

“Two armed men entered the premises, opened fire at random, and the four were shot. The two suspects fled the scene, leaving behind the victims bleeding profusely.

“The police and some paramedics were called out to the scene. Upon arrival, two of the victims were certified dead and the other two, who had sustained gunshot wounds, were taken to hospital for medical treatment,” Mohlala said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the place where the shooting took place had been a tavern at some stage, but was seemingly no longer operational. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.

Mohlala said a case with two counts of murder as well as two counts of attempted murder was opened.

The two victims who were murdered have since been identified as Bhekifa Mokoena (24) and Absalom Nkuna (38).

No arrests have yet been made. The police urged anyone with information to call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or send information via the My SAPS app.
