Residents plan to blockade N4 in Nkomazi

Information about plans to blockade the N4 in Nkomazi on Monday October 2, was circulating on social media as some community members anticipate to protest for law enforcement intervention regarding crime.

Protest action leading to a blockade of the N4 in various areas in Nkomazi tomorrow, October 2, remains a possibility.

Information was circulating on social media tonight that the protest relates to the recurring kidnappings of Nkomazi residents and truck drivers for ransom, and the victims are allegedly tortured, mutilated and raped if it isn’t paid.

The desired outcome of the protest is to call for the intervention of law enforcement organisations to prioritise fighting against crime in the subregion.

According to a joint media statement by the Malalane and Komatipoort community policing forums, it is unclear whether the blockades will succeed or even commence.

“If they do take place, heavy vehicle logistics will be the most severely affected with knock-on effects on other traffic, and therefore general manufacturing operations dependent on such,” it said.
