1 716, including 376 illegal immigrants, arrested in Limpopo

The high-density Operation Kukula continues to combat crime.

Between October 2 and 8, the Limpopo SAPS arrested 1 716 suspects. This included arrests in Steelpoort and Burgersfort. Operation Kukula is a multilevel operation led by the police.

These suspects were charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated robbery, rape, sexual assault, gender-based violence, common assault, common robbery (business and residential), theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles, illegal possession of firearms and drug-related crimes.

The members confiscated 11 firearms, 152 rounds of ammunition, 24 knives and one stolen vehicle. Drugs such as khat, crystal meth, dagga and nyaope, and counterfeit cigarettes and liquor were confiscated.

A total of 58 shebeens were closed, 250 domestic violence cases were addressed, and 305 protection orders were issued. In total, 1 623 road traffic fines were issued. A total of 376 illegal immigrants were also arrested.

“Our members on the ground are hitting hard in all the corners of the five districts of the province,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Limpopo police commissioner.
