Mataffin residents allegedly torch man suspected of Bontle Mashiyane’s murder

Samuel Mangebeletane Tsela was accused of killing Bontle Mashiyane. His charges had been provisionally withdrawn due to a lack of evidence.

The community of Mataffin is alleged to have set Samuel Mangebeletane Tsela, who was accused of being behind the mutilation of Bontle Mashiyane in Mganduzweni more than a year ago, on fire on Saturday night, November 18, at the house in which he was hiding.

Tsela’s charges had been provisionally withdrawn by the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court on July 28 due to insufficient evidence.

A provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said the SAPS had received information about a man who was burned to death by community members. The police and emergency services found the man, and he was certified on the scene.

“He was identified by his family as Tsela, who was also known as a traditional healer during the inhumane murder of Bontle Mashiyane, who was a neighbour, in Masoyi.”

A case of murder has been opened with the Nelspruit Police Station following the burning.
