Investigations into White River jewellery store robbery continues
Roy Sarkin Jewellers in White River was recently robbed by four men. A case of business robbery has been opened and is being investigated.
While no arrests have yet been made in the brazen robbery of Roy Sarkin Jewellers last Thursday, November 16, the police said they are following up on information and the investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Roy Sarkin, the owner of Roy Sarkin Jewellers at the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre, said following the most recent incident, the second robbery to occur at his store this year, he is thinking about giving up the jewellery business, saying it was too risky. Sarkin had previously told Lowvelder the first time his store was robbed this year was on July 22.
It was about 10:00 on November 16 when four men, some armed with crowbars and one with a gun, robbed the jewellers, breaking display cases in the process.

He said he had just stepped out to get a cup of coffee. He said his wife was still inside and that he had locked both the door and gate behind him when he left.
CCTV footage of the incident shows three men with shopping bags kicking the door open and entering the shop, after they had seemingly pried the gate open with the crowbars. The fourth remained on watch outside the door.
The video only lasts 12 seconds.
Sarkin said his wife was luckily not harmed in the incident and that he had opened a police case. He said the CCTV cameras had been installed after the first robbery. He said the men had told his wife that morning that they would be back.

Sarkin said he had not yet calculated the total value of the items stolen, and added that the robbers had made away with more items in the first robbery.
“During the first robbery, the suspects told us they didn’t want to hurt us as we were their ‘customers’, and that they would be back to rob us again,” said Sarkin.
Casterbridge’s Louis van der Merwe had previously told Lowvelder that the whole incident was so brazen, but that they were grateful they had caught clear footage of the suspects on the CCTV footage.
A provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said a case of business robbery was being investigated. He said no arrests had as yet been made.
