Barberton Primary’s pupils excel

The primary school’s top achievers on the sports field, in the classroom and on-stage were recently awarded.

Barberton Primary School recently held its annual prize-giving.

Its pupils were acknowledged for their academic, sport and cultural achievements during 2023.

The main trophies, prizes and certificates awarded to pupils were as follows:
• Angel Mahori: dux pupil
• Kayla Zwane: sports girl of the year
• Makabongwe Nkuna: sports boy of the year
• Kay-Lee Vermaak: culture
• Johnny Strydom: Barberton prize for the ambassador of the school on all levels.

Top achievers in Grade Seven with the highest percentage in a subject:
• Muhammad Joosub: economic management science, English home language, life orientation (boys), mathematics and technology
• Angel Mahori: English first additional language, Afrikaans huistaal and natural science
• Meron Sharge: life orientation (girls), arts and culture and Afrikaans eerste addisionele taal
• Amyrah Mhlongo: social sciences
• Juandré Mills: best development in English first additional language
• Emihle Mohlaloganye: best development in Afrikaans eerste addisionele taal.

Top achievers during culture week:
• Kay-Lee Vermaak
• Meron Sharge.

• Amelia Mathebula: hockey player of the year
• Rirhandzu Mathebula: netball player of the year
• Vuyile Mhlongo: soccer player of the year

• Cornel Potgieter: best bouler of the year
• Jayden van den Berg: best batsman of the year
• Ethan Westcott: best fielder of the year
• Denzel Msibi: rugby player of the year
• Makabongwe Nkuna: boy athlete of the year
• Kayla Zwane: girl athlete of the year, Mpumalanga athlete of the year
• Mpilo Nxasana: cross-country athlete of the year.
