Kutullo youth benefit from Modubanyane tournament

Lesiba Tshehla, an organiser, said the 2024 tournament will be bigger than the previous one.

The Modubanyane and Tšipane Foundation launched a soccer tournament at the City Guys Sports Grounds in Kutullo outside Steelpoort during the festive season, as a way to give back to the community.

This non-profit company vowed to organise these games annually, during December.

This inaugural tournament saw three teams, namely Balaodi FC, Balaodi Juniors and City Guys FC, compete for top honours.

“The tourney benefited soccer teams, but has also uplifted the local entrepreneurs as they had opportunities to showcase and sell their products during the showpiece. We handed soccer kits to the participants. They also received soccer balls, referee flags, 50 training cones, goalkeeper gloves and shinguards,” said the sponsor, Locia Tšipane Ntsodi.

The winners, City Guys, also received a trophy and some medals.
Lesiba Tshehla, an organiser, said the 2024 tournament will be bigger than the previous one.

“We will have more teams involved and have bigger prizes for the winners. We want to encourage the locals to participate in sporting activities.”

Ntsodi added: “We provided catering, water and sports drinks for all the participating teams, including the match officials. The refereeing team was also given gifts after the tournament. We appreciate the support from local councillor Swarang Maboa for honouring the tournament.

“There has never been a better way to keep youngsters off the streets than to get them involved in sports in the community.”

Ntsodi said she launched the tournament after she saw the lack of sports equipment in rural areas. “I wanted to make a difference in the local communities, and to ensure youngsters have the resources they need.”
The foundation aims to address challenges in education and empower young people to shape their own future.
