Woman hijacked of her motorcycle in Mbombela

Anyone with information regarding a blue and black Kawasaki KLE500 motorcycle is asked to contact the police.

A bike rider, Keisha Kleynhans, was hijacked of her Kawasaki KLE500 motorcycle just after she knocked off from work at Eco Training on December 13, 2023.

She said she used the bike to commute between work and home. With no insurance on the bike and without any mode of transport, she said this ordeal has put a strain on her daily activities. “I usually parked at the top parking space at The Outpost Centre. On that day after work, at about 17:15, I got on my bike and headed out. I yielded to look out for oncoming cars and saw a man running towards me while pointing a firearm at me. He pushed me off and he climbed on the bike. I managed to leave the bike on idle.

“While he struggled to get it going, a jogger passed by and responded to my screams. He approached to help me, but the suspect pointed the firearm at him as well. The jogger just continued on his way and the suspect got away with the bike.”

Kleynhans said the suspect was wearing a helmet, hoodie and gloves, and could she not identify him.

She said it took her a long time to find a motorcycle that suited her needs and height. “I only had the bike for a few months before it was taken away from me in split seconds. I rode the 17th International Female Just Ride Day in Mbombela last year in May. It was my first big ride and it was special as a woman who loves riding motorcycles.”

However, she said she is grateful that she was not hurt. “I just want to spread awareness to all bikers to have anti-theft systems installed on your bikes and carry something for self-defence.”

She urged anyone who might spot the bike to contact the police. The bike is blue and black in colour, with registration number KVH 830 MP.
