Sunday market at Mbombela’s Sonpark back after a two-year hiatus

This new instalment of the market saw 72 stalls. The market is planned for the second Sunday of every month.

Lowvelders flocked to the Sunday Market at Sonpark on February 11 in their numbers as it made its first appearance in two years.

With 72 stalls of locals selling a variety of delicious food, drinks and locally crafted products, from handmade clothing and dolls to handcrafted lighting, leather shoes, plants, jewellery and so much more, the visitors took their time perusing the items on sale.

A sitting area was set up next to a beer garden for those who wanted something a little stronger than coffee or bubble tea. Local artists Debbie K and Berno Venter both ensured a constant flow of good music for the duration of the market.

Zippy the Clown was also present, walking around the market, handing out balloons and making the children laugh throughout.

Koos Schoonraad, the organiser, said it was the first market at Sonpark in two years, and that he was overwhelmed by the amount of support the community had given it. “There were lots of people. We will have this market every second Sunday of the month,” he said.
