IN PHOTOS: Third AmberMacs Expo one for the books

Held in White River from February 8 to 9, the much-anticipated third AmberMacs Macadamia Expo 2024 proved to be a huge success.

The third AmberMacs Macadamia Expo 2024 hosted on February 8 to 9 seemed to be a massive success this year, with scores of visitors through the gates each day.

With over 180 exhibitors on the expo grounds, food and drink stalls and a variety of macadamia-based delicacies, such as macadamia ice cream, macadamia cookies and macadamia coffee, the visitors were kept engaged.

Besides the exhibitors and stalls, a number of expert guest speakers hosted a series of seminars and presentations on macadamia farming and the industry in general.

AmberMacs’ managing director, Philip Moufarrige, said the expo offered something useful for both seasoned and newer farmers alike, and aimed to benefit and support growers and suppliers through the sharing of the latest ideas and innovations in farming practices, technology, pest control, irrigation, dam building, pruning, harvesting and drying.

Not only did visitors get the chance to taste some delicious food and experience new and exciting macadamia products, they also had the opportunity to learn about the history of macadamia farming, the challenges faced by the industry and the potential for growth in the global market.

One of the highlights of the expo was the keynote speech by nationally renowned economist Dawie Roodt. Roodt spoke to a hall filled with interested expo-goers and gave a macro overview of the South African economy. The founder, director and chief economist of the Efficient Group, Roodt serves on a variety of investment committees within it. His latest role is that of chairperson of Efficient Private Clients, of which the Efficient Group is the majority shareholder.

He specialises in monetary and fiscal policies, and is currently doing extensive research on the possible impact of cryptocurrencies on monetary policy. He is closely involved with the management of client asset portfolios. His interest in international and local politics has grown and he has become knowledgeable in these fields as well.

He has been the anchor presenter of the television programme Ontbytsake for the past 19 years.
