Martin Jeffreys of Emer-G-Med said one of the trucks had attempted to avoid a collision with a motor vehicle that had broken down on the left-hand side of the road, leading to a chain reaction collision. It swerved out and into the second truck next to it. Subsequently, a third truck collided into them from behind.
The truck drivers involved in the side collision were not injured. However, the driver of the truck behind sustained some injuries. Jeffreys reported that he was extricated by Emer-G-Med and fully immobilised.

Jeffreys said the road is currently closed in both directions. One truck has been removed from the scene, and they are awaiting the collection of the second one. He said as soon as the second one is collected, the westbound lane will be operated under a stop-and-go system to allow motorists to travel on the road.
