A fire burnt down the Mnisi family’s 10-roomed house in Dresden outside Burgersfort on Monday afternoon. It seems that the fire had started in one of the bedrooms at about 16:00.
“My sister was outside the house with the kids doing her laundry. She went back in the house and saw a small fire on one of the beds. She screamed to call her siblings to assist her to douse the fire, but when she returned, there was smoke all over the house. The inferno had already spread to other rooms in the house,” said Kamo Mnisi, a family member.

He said firefighters from Tubatse were dispatched, but it was too late, as most of their belongings had already caught fire. “We are left with the clothes on the washing line.”
Mnisi said they are still in shock.
“There were no electric appliances next to the bed, or electric cables. And also, none of the kids were inside the house.”
The family have lost almost all of their belongings.
“The kids have lost their school uniforms. We have no bank cards or groceries. It’s difficult to start everything from scratch. We are just relieved no one got injured during the incident.”
Locals willing to assist the family can contact Mnisi on 082 742 8041 or 081 315 4881.
