Record number of golfers raise R150k for Nelspruit Hospice

The 15th edition of the Nelspruit Hospice Golf Day was a raging success, with a sold-out field of golfers enjoying some great weather in the name of charity.

Nelspruit Hospice hosted yet another successful golf day at Mbombela Golf Club on Friday June 7.

With a packed field of golfers, they ensured it was a jol out on the greens under the winter sun. No fewer than 126 players took part in the Nelspruit Hospice Golf Day this year, which was the 15th edition of what is a major source of income for the organisation. According to Landi Bezuidenhout of Nelspruit Hospice, this is the first year in which they’ve had such a large number of competitors for their golf day.

The hospice is an organisation that relies solely on donations, and the annual golf day goes a long way to ensuring they can carry out their operations. This year they were treated to some fine weather, with a touch of wind making things just a bit tricky for golfers.

The day was played under a superhero theme and in a scramble drive four-ball alliance format, with two scores to count. Players got the day under way with a shotgun start at 11:00.

Some great golf was played and some great scores were carded. Neil du Toit, Reynier van Rooyen, Jacques Rademeyer and Justin van Staden emerged as the victorious team on 107 points.

Japie Myburgh, Barry du Toit, Jacque van Vuuren and Clinton Snyman were second with 107 points too. Denise West, Cyzelle Fincham, Estie Bessinger and Mary-Anne Braitwaite finished third with a total of 104 points.

There were various ways in which money was raised in aid of hospice on the day. All of these efforts, such as auctions and companies as well as individuals pledging money, helped add up to roughly R150 000 in donations to go towards Nelspruit Hospice.
