Head-on collission on N4 outside Mbombela claims three lives

The deceased were the driver and two passengers of a VW Polo, while five passengers of a taxi were injured.

Three people were killed instantly and five people were seriously injured when a Volkswagen Polo light and minibus taxi collided head on on the N4 toll road near Montrose towards Mbombela on Sunday June 23.

According to the spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, the three deceased where the driver and two passengers of the Polo, and the five injured people were the driver and four passengers of the minibus taxi.

“The injured were rushed to the nearest hospitals in Mbombela. At the time of the crash, the minibus was travelling from Ngodwana to Mbombela, while the Polo was moving in the opposite direction. The cause of the crash is not known at this stage. However, reckless driving cannot be ruled out. The investigation into the crash is already under way,” he said.

Mmusi also said motorists are once more called upon to obey the rules of the road and to drive with caution.
