CIT heist suspect in Tonga Magistrate’s Court for allegedly contravening Firearm Act

Moosa Sibusiso Vilakazi (39) was reportedly involved in a CIT heist that took place on the Malalane road towards Schoemansdal in August 2023.

A man suspected of being involved in a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist, Moosa Sibusiso Vilakazi (39), appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on Thursday July 4, after he was arrested for contravention of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 by failing to properly secure a firearm.

The Mpumalanga Hawks’ spokesperson, Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, said it is alleged that on August 11, 2023, a CIT heist took place on the Malalane road towards Schoemansdal.

The information led police to a safe house where the getaway vehicles were parked in a garage. The team searched the house and found a firearm lying on a bed.

Sekgotodi said the firearm was seized and it was determined through the serial number that it belonged to Vilakazi.

“A case of negligent loss of firearm was registered and the team continued with its investigation. A warrant of arrest was authorised and executed on Thursday July 4, and the suspect appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on the same day. Vilakazi was released on a warning. He is also on bail for a CIT robbery,” she said.

The case was transferred to the Nelspruit Regional Court and the suspect is expected to appear on July 26. Sekgotodi said the investigations are continuing.
