Mbombela’s Stinkhout Crescent remains in the dark, despite promises of repairs
The City of Mbombela had promised to repair the streetlights after it found a cable fault in April, but to this day, these lights are still not functioning.
Despite promises by the City of Mbombela (CoM) to repair the streetlights in Stinkhout Crescent by July 31, nothing has happened.
At the beginning of April this year, the CoM spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said the matter would be investigated and the lights repaired. According to him, the streetlights had old fittings that first needed to be replaced, and plans were put in place to do so within two weeks.

In May, Ngala said: “Stinkhout Crescent has old infrastructure. During our investigations, we found there were two cable faults that needed to be repaired before replacing any of the fittings that were not working. Our team is busy with other areas and they will hopefully be able to return to conduct fault-finding and repair the lights during the week of July 31.”

It is now nearly mid-August and still no action has been taken, and the streetlights are still off. Businesses in this area, which forms a busy commerce hub and contributes to the economy in the town, remain worried.
The business owners said they are compliant when it comes to rates and taxes, but their concerns are not heard.
Despite trying to contact Ngala, he was not available for comment by time of publishing.
