LISTEN | Stormy and wet Christmas period predicted

Stormy weather will be part of some festive activities, the SAWS predicts.

According to SAWS, weather regards no festive season.

“It is the reality as demonstrated by harsh weather events which occurred during the past week in places like Mokopane in Limpopo, QwaQwa in the Free State, and Tembisa in Gauteng, with damage to and the closure of low-lying bridges in Centurion,” SAWS said.

Widespread showers and thundershowers are expected across the western Limpopo and northern Gauteng areas could be accompanied by disruptive rain and localised flooding.

Widespread showers and thundershowers are expected across the western Limpopo and northern Gauteng areas and could be accompanied by disruptive rain and localised flooding. “However, the south-western interior will remain clear of precipitation with partly cloudy and warm conditions, but hot in places in the northern parts of the Northern Cape. On Christmas day, December 25, morning drizzle is expected along the Limpopo and Mpumalanga Escarpment regions. A notably reduced distribution of showers and thundershowers is anticipated in the afternoon.” According to the SAWS, the weather promises to be sunny and dry, with hot to very hot conditions across most of the Cape provinces, where fire ignition could lead to the costly spread of veld fires and extensive damage. “Members of communities are advised to report unattended fires immediately. At this stage, weather models suggest that only the North West could experience scattered showers and thundershowers by late afternoon. On the Day of Goodwill, December 26, isolated showers and thundershowers are expected over most parts of the republic, except for the north-eastern and south-western regions. Thunderstorms will be scattered across Gauteng, the North West and the Free State, as well as over the northern parts of the Northern Cape.” According to the SAWS, the continuous flow of moisture from countries north of South Africa will be one reason for the expected showery conditions this week. “Additionally, a surface high pressure will extend its ridge into eastern South Africa, with a surface trough over the west-central interior.” #christmastiktok #mpumalanga #weatheringwithyou #southafricatiktok🇿🇦 #christmasweather #prediction #mbombela
