The Dorpsrivier’s water level is rising rapidly.

According to information received, the river is widening and rising at an alarming rate tonight, January 1. The Lydenburg Dam, supplying the town with water, is overflowing at the dam walls, causing a rise in river levels.

The DA’s councillor, Spiros Couvaras, is urging residents to be aware and vigilant and plan accordingly if the alarm is given to evacuate. “We are not there yet, but we would rather be prepared.”

Kowyns pass is rising at an alarming rate.

The bridge at Kolwyn’s Pass and the bridge near Spur in Viljoen Street should also be monitored.
