FTLM honours best performing matric pupils and schools

The learners received personal computers, certificates of achievement, and vouchers in recognition of their exceptional performances.

The Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) mayor, Eddie Maila, in conjunction with the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) executive mayor, Minah Bahula, hosted a celebratory luncheon to honour FTLM’s top performing matriculants and schools.

FTLM’s Eddie Maila, Tubatse Circuit manager SS Lingwati and SDM’s Minah Bahula. Lingwati received gifts for St Thomas College and Calvin College for their 100% pass rate.

The event was held at Thaba Moshate Hotel, Casino and Convention Resort on January 17. It was attended by circuit managers, 2024 matriculants, and parents.

The two leaders presented the top 12 learners with personal computers, certificates of achievement, and R2 500 vouchers in recognition of their exceptional performance.

On January 14, the Limpopo education MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, announced that Sekhukhune East has been recognised as the most improved district in the province in terms of matric results. The district achieved an 84% pass rate in 2024, climbing from 74.7% in 2023.

Maila said he was proud of the matric class of 2024.

“We are delighted to honour matric pupils who have outdone themselves in attaining outstanding results, despite the adversities of 2024.

“We urge parents, learners, teachers and the school management teams to work together in order to attain a 100% pass rate.
“The municipality doors are forever open and we are more than ready to work with local schools to improve our results. Let’s come with programmes and strategies that will ensure the FTLM pupils are also tops on national level.”

Maila congratulated the Class of 2024, the teachers and the school management teams.

“FTLM will continue supporting education locally. We will be sponsoring 20 to 25 matric pupils with bursaries that cover their tuition fees, residences, stationery and many more needs.”
Maila urged the matriculants to focus on their studies while at institutions of higher learning and to fly the Fetakgomo Tubatse flag high.”

He added,”There are so many challenges at tertiary institutions. Study hard and only focus on your studies.”
Representing the Sekhukhune East District was Dr JF Malatji, who thanked the FTLM and SDM for the support and investing in education.
“This is an encouragement to the Class of 2025; they can now see that support is there from government institutions. I believe they will pull up their socks in order to also achieve these kinds of gifts.”

Malatji said as a district they have done tremendously well.

“We have improved a lot with our matric results, we now have 15 schools that achieved a 100% pass rate. In 2022 and 2023, only one school had a 100%. All our 16 circuits have improved.”

He asked for support from the business sector and government during matric camps.
