Kruger National Park elephant tramples tourist to death

Some SANParks officials attended to the matter on scene. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

SANParks announced that an elephant trampled a man to death in the Kruger National Park on January 25.

According to SANParks’ joint media statement issued by its head of communications, JP Louw, and the Kruger’s communications and marketing manager, Isaac Phaahla, the elephant charged and trampled a tourist to death near the Crocodile River at the Malelane Gate.

SANParks officials rushed to the scene to attend to the matter and to provide support to the victim’s family.

The statement further said the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
“Due to the sensitivity of this matter, we appeal to the public to refrain from posting any pictures or videos of the incident and the victim,” said the statement. “SANParks’ board members and management extend their heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and friends.”
