Attempted CIT heist: Car burns out on N4 near KaNyamazane
There were no injuries or fatalities reported from the scene of the attempted cash-in-transit heist.
A Mercedes-Benz was either torched or it caught fire during an attempted cash-in-transit heist on the N4 between the KaNyamazane and Mara intersections on Saturday afternoon, March 1.
According to a Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, multiple vehicles were involved in the attempted heist.
“This includes the Mercedes Benz, a Ford Ranger and a Toyota Fortuner. According to some information received, the cash vehicle was hit from behind, but the security officials managed to get away and no cash was taken by the suspects, who also fled,” Mdhluli said.
He said the cash vehicle was headed to Mbombela. No injuries or fatalities were reported from the scene.

Mdhluli also said the Mpumalanga Hawks are investigating the matter.
This section of the N4 has been partially closed with a stop-and-go system in place since the incident to assist with traffic flow.
However, motorists are urged to exercise patience and be cautious in that area.
